World Kindness Day
Do you know November 13th is World Kindness Day? Here at the NC SweetPotato Commission, we take being kind – or as we say, being sweet – very seriously.
In fact, kindness makes us happier, according to The Huffington Post. On a biochemical level, it is believed that the good feeling we get is due to elevated levels of dopamine in the brain. Layman’s terms? We get a natural high from being kind, often referred to as “Helper’s High.”
If you’re looking to brighten someone’s day, put a smile on someone’s face or just feel good about yourself – here are 7 acts of “sweetness” to celebrate World Kindness Day:
- Volunteer at a local food bank
- Bring a bowl of sweetpotato chili to a sick friend
- Call your grandparents to say you’re thinking about them
- Smile at everyone you encounter

- Bake a loved one a sweetpotato pie
- Pay for a stranger’s parking meter
- Write uplifting words of wisdom on a sticky note and place them on your mirror
We also know that when we’re kind, we inspire others to be kind. So this World Kindness Day, be sure to tag @Sweet_Taters to pass along your sweet acts to others!
