Raise Your Glass: 4 Sweetpotato Brews
With sweetpotato brews becoming so popular this season (move over pumpkin’), we thought it would only be right to give a nod to National Drink A Beer Day this Sept 28th.
In honor of the holiday, here are 4 beers featuring yours truly:
- Carver – Fullsteam Brewery’s crisp, refreshing lager is brewed with 200 pounds of NC sweetpotatoes, and 0 ounces of pie spice. Savory and earthy, deliciously smooth. While Carver is brewed year-round, Fullsteam only cans it in the fall. This year’s new label features an illustration of George Washington Carver, the famed scientist and lover of peanuts, whom the beer is named after.
- St. Tuber Abby Ale – Charlotte’s Birdsong Brewing uses a whopping 320 pounds of fresh hand-cut NC sweetpotatoes for each batch of St. Tuber Abbey Ale. You’ll find hints of fruit and esters provided by the Belgian yeast combine with a rich, caramel-earthy sweetpotato flavor and a touch of fresh clove to tie it all together. Its brewers recommend sipping this brew while you pull your sweaters out of the closet and watch the leaves change colors!
- Sweetpotato Ale – Piney River Brewery’s ale is unique in that they roast the sweetpotatoes before brewing! The malty ale features flavors of roasted sweetpotatoes, spices and vanilla.
- Jefferson Stout – This brewski is Lazy Magnolia’s version of the ideal Southern-Style Stout. Jefferson Stout is brewed with sweetpotatoes which provide the background to an impressive taste with added notes of roasted chocolate, coffee and caramel flavors.
