In honor of National Grilled Cheese Month, we are dedicating this week’s post to the classic comfort food we all know and love. We get it, one bite and nostalgia sets in – the smell of innocent childhood. For as long as we can remember, grilled cheese always existed. There was never a time without grilled cheese….or was there?

In fact, yes. Well, the delicious duo of bread and cheese has been around for centuries, but it wasn’t until the 1920’s when inexpensive processed bread and American cheese became easily available. Especially during the Great Depression, eating a grilled cheese sandwich was a simple way to get some protein, fat and carbs at a very low cost.

Today, the grilled cheese has transformed from the simple, low-cost sandwich it started as to many variations of gourmet culinary makeovers.  Here are a few of our favorite grilled cheese recipes using your favorite sweet spud!

  • Sweetpotato and Kale Grilled CheeseTwo Peas & Their Pod’s grilled cheese sandwich has some of our all-time favorite flavors: kale, caramelized red onions, rosemary, cheese and of course, sweetpotatoes. And let’s not forget the importance of bread choice. This hearty, nutty, buttered bread makes this grilled cheese a home run!
