LUCAMA — Scott Farms’ successful television advertising campaign has earned the Wilson County business a national marketing award.

Scott Farms International’s “Innovation in Sweetpotatoes” promotional campaign received the 29th annual Produce Business Marketing Excellence Award, the company announced in a news release. The award honors companies in the produce industry that produce exemplary marketing programs with great connecting power to their customers.

“We are extremely excited to be mentioned alongside some great companies in the industry,” said Dewey Scott, vice president for sweetpotato operations.“We simply set out to tell our story. The story of why and how we do what we do. And, people took notice.”

Scott Farms said the promotional campaign launched in fall 2016 and generated more than 5 million views on broadcast television. It also increased the company’s website traffic by more than 125 percent.

“We tried to show the inside story of where your food comes from and how it gets from the farm to you,” marketing director Jeff Thomas said in the release. “Going into the campaign, not really thinking in terms of marketability, we wanted to tell the truth of our process. It is a process that is transparent from beginning to end and we felt that would resonate with our customers and entice them to want to learn more about Scott Farms as a whole.”

Scott Farms is a sixth-generation family farm that’s been in continuous operation since the late 1800s. In addition to its Lucama headquarters, Scott Farms has international sales offices in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

The company’s sweetpotato production was recently featured on the Discovery Channel’s “Innovations” and on RFD-TV’s “American Farmer.”
