Chef Vivian Howard Is Sweet On Sweetpotatoes

The Carolina chef has a history utilizing sweetpotatoes in all aspects of her life: on her show, in her restaurants, and at home with her kids. With over 400 growers, processors, packers and business associates in the NC SweetPotato Commission, we’re honored to work with such a great culinary talent and sweet tater lover!

Who is Chef Vivian Howard?

As a North Carolina native born to tobacco and hog farmers, Chef Vivian discovered her love for food during her time spent living in New York City. She returned to North Carolina to open Chef & the Farmer, a farm-to-table restaurant serving local and seasonal cuisine sourced from NC farmers within a 60 mile radius. And with such a large sweetpotato influence in the state, it’s no wonder our spuds are a menu staple! In addition to our exciting partnership rejoicing our love for sweet taters, 2016 is a big year for the chef who was recently nominated as a 2016 James Beard Awards finalist and will be releasing her first cookbook this fall. With an entire chapter devoted to sweetpotatoes, we can only imagine they will be flying off the shelves!

About A Chef’s Life

After her incredible success with Chef & the Farmer, PBS began airing A Chef’s Life in 2013 to showcase Chef Vivian’s everyday life and interactions within her community. Each episode follows Vivian as she finds her inspiration for seasonal menus by meeting with local farmers in true farm-to-table fashion. She explores different aspects of southern cuisine all while balancing her family, two restaurants and cookbook release. Additionally, A Chef’s Life has been nominated for two daytime Emmy’s with season four kicking off later this year.
