4th Grade Sweet Potato Essay Contest | | | 
| | | Since 2004 the NC SweetPotato Commission has held a sweet potato essay contest. The essays provide a good opportunity for a 4th grade writing assessment, but also gives the winners some special recognition in their community and among their peers.
Eligibility/Structure of Contest All participating elementary school students turn their essay in to their 4th grade teacher. One winning essay, chosen by school administration, should be sent to the North Carolina SweetPotato Commission.
Prompt Personal...Write a story about a time that you enjoyed a meal with your family or friends that included sweetpotatoes. Imaginative...Write a story about the time that Spencer SweetPotato came to your school. Tell what happened and what you learned from his visit about North Carolina sweet potatoes.
Prizes The winning student from each school will receive a Spencer SweetPotato Beanie Doll and a certificate of recognition. The teacher of the winning student will receive a “Build a Spencer” doll for use in the classroom, as well as a “fill-in-the-blank” news release that can be submitted to the local newspaper.
